Animal in Style I

The design is based on the typical stylised rendition of animals in Style I as seen on the relief brooch from Gummersmark, Denmark and is also reminiscent of most animals featured on bracteates.

This type of animal ornament is the predecessor to the actual ribbon animal as we know it and the ancestor to all the following versions of the ribbon animals in Germanic and Norse art up until the end of the Viking Age.

This type of motif is found throughout Scandinavia.
