Relief Brooch With Animal Ornaments in Style I

The design is based on several variations of relief brooches decorated with protruding animal heads and filled with vine-like spiral patterns, striations, and animal bodies and heads.

Interlacing patterns of animal bodies are still rare in Style I. Instead, a cornucopia of different textures and shapes create sprawling ornamentation where it is often hard to distinguish the individual parts.

This type of motif is found throughout Scandinavia.
