The Door of the Urnes Stave Church

Reconstruction illustration of the north-facing door of the Urnes stave church displaying Urnes style carvings in low relief.

This door and several other elements with and without carved decorations were originally part of an earlier church built sometime after 1070 but were reused in the present stave church from c. 1135.

The door has been shortened at the bottom to fit the dimensions of the present church but was originally c. 30 cm taller. Its current size is now c. 80 cm wide and c. 255 cm tall.
